    Hi Jeff - RocketymanRay here again. I've made a dozen batches of soap - you were my inspiration! The house always smells good now, I usualy have a batch curing. I give it away for gifts, and just to be nice and share. I'm not ready to start making it commerically yet, but I may need something to do after retiring after 40 years working in the aerospace industry for NASA at Kennedy Space Center. If you're ever in the area to watch a launch, let me know - I owe you a cold drink!!

    Will toads bathing in drinking water be bad for other animals to drink from it? Or do they not secrete their toxin in water?

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95 7 днів тому

      Looks like Toads only secrete the toxins when threatened. apparently the toxin just makes them taste bad. I change the water frequently and haven’t noticed any issues from the occasional toad.

    This is lovely. You got me thinking, maybe digging a hole for a big bucket underneath for a nice deep water reserve with the small bath on top would work well for my situation. I also have mine in a sunny spot and it runs dry way too fast.

    2.5 cups and 0.5 cups is a 5 to 1 ratio (about 17% glycerin); 20% is a 4 to 1 ratio. For the 3 cups total, a 20% glycerin mixture would use 0.6 cups glycerin (and 2.4 cups water), not 0.5. For a 20% mix, maybe 2 cups water and 0.5 cups glycerin (total 2.5 cups), or perhaps a "large" batch using 800ml water to 200ml glycerin (1 liter total) would be easier. Using milliliters (ml) could also make it easier if one wanted to experiment with different ratios to make a 1 liter batch, such as 85% (850ml) and 15% (150ml).

      No, haven’t tried that soap unfortunately. I did use the “foam daddy Gel” to some success. The liquid concentrate foam soap has always worked the best but of course it’s the most expensive. Dawn dish soap works very well if you’re looking of a cheaper solution.

    As he’s swapped the gravel for river rocks later in time just a little reminder, keep some rocks slightly above the water level for insects to land at their "refreshing" zone (means away from the sprinkler area!). And btw, why not wash the rocks before they’re getting added to the basin?

    i got the pump you reccomended after i saw your vid. Its great! I did have a question about mosquitos. Did you have any issues with larvae in the water once the flow stopped in the evenings? you mentioned only needing refill, and occasional cleaning for algae... does that mean the gap between when the water is stagnant isn't long enough to sully the water from the skeetos?

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95 2 місяці тому

      I thankfully have never had mosquito larvae. I do dump most of the water out when I refill the fountain every few days so between that and the movement of the water during the day they can’t survive.

    I love my Intex XTR. I've had 3 Intex pool, upgrading as my kids grew from a 10' round to my current 16x32x52. Each served their purpose beautifully. I will add, however, that Intex included filters are typically more appropiate for the next smaller size pool. Put another way, you should immediately get the filter meant for the next larger size pool than the one you ordered. That a problem for me since I have the largest pool they offer so I just bought a Hayward filter in year two. I also bought a Hayward through the wall skimmer to install this season as the Intex over the wall skimmer tends to float out of the water when people are in the pool and sometimes even when there's no one in the pool, causes the filter to lose intake flow. And yesm the ladder is abysmal so I had a very sturdy set of stairs build with posts sunk into the ground which I later had connected to a ground level deck. I'm happy with that, but I wish I had known about this company before I'd invested my limited funds into that project. You might want to check them out. (ua-cam.com/video/wr4nxvoDhXY/v-deo.htmlsi=X65C3LJzZy3YB7Ft). And by the way, you can drop your intex XTR in the ground to have a built in effect. Obviously that would greatly raise your expense, but it would still be way cheaper than having a built-in. Those few complaints aside, I do think the Intex pool is the best bank for one's buck. You could spend 3 or 4x more for an above ground pool or 10-15x more for a built in, but I seriously doubt you would get much more value at the end of the day.

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95 2 місяці тому

      I used pressure treated wood. Regular lumber would definitely rot with ground contact. I think I remember the directions saying to use wood but Pavers would probably work alright although it is possible they could crack. There is a lot of weight on the legs.
